Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement

[edit]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!

[edit]
2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

Autopatrol given

[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. INeverCry 01:32, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  1. 157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
  2. In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
  3. In third place, 131 people voted for an image of a swallow flying and drinking.

Please stop changing "zh-hant" to "zh"

[edit]

Because Chinese can be devided into two version, tradtional and simplified, they should not be used at the same time or in the same template. If you want to type in simplified version, please use the template "{{zh-hans}}". In traditonal version , plaese use the template "{{zh-hant}}". --祥龍 (talk) 05:27, 27 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong category

[edit]

Hello Chongkian, I saw you added a Wiki Loves Monuments category to files. This category should only be used when photos are uploaded in September 2015 and take part in the contest. And they must contain the Wiki Loves Monuments template and not just the category. But the photos should be added to this Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Malaysia. So I moved them there. [edit]

Hi Chongkian,

Thanks for your message but your statement is INCORRECT, just because you were unable to find it doesn't mean that it does not exist :)

Both Places (Southern Bank (04-MLK/24) and Peranakan Museum (04-MLK/25) as mentioned in the WLM Malaysia list DO EXIST in Malacca.

For this time, I will give you the direction and guide you to the point so that you can reach there easily but for other locations please do a bit of more search as comments like these may discourage others and this is the first time Malaysia is Participating so I hope you agree and keep the comments positive/suportive and appreciate the hard word done for WLM Malaysia  :)

Pasted below are the directions:

Shopping malls in Sabah / Shopping in Sabah

[edit]

Good evening, Chongkian. Thanks for reviewing the Sabah categories. However, I want to mention, that "Shopping in Sabah" and "Shopping malls in Sabah" are two different lines of category. While the first is referring to an activity, the second is referring to the building. --CEphoto, Uwe Aranas (talk) 14:39, 12 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I get your point in that. But the broader 'parent' category that exists regarding shopping is towards the "Shopping malls in Malaysia", with its 'children' category dividing in into each state and federal territory in Malaysia. Therefore I created the "Shopping malls in Sabah". Although I agree that shoppings and shopping malls are two different things, I haven't seen the parent category for "Shopping in Sabah" in which it should be "Shopping in Malaysia", as well as its other related categories (e.g. Shopping in Penang, Pahang, Perlis etc), thus making the "Shopping in Sabah" category to be a less well-established category. We can, at this point of time, try to categorize shopping malls in Sabah into "Shopping in Sabah" and "Shopping malls in Sabah" together, but you must do the part for making the "Shopping in Malaysia" as well as its other 'children' category for "Shopping in Penang", "Shopping in Perak", "Shopping in Kedah" etc as well. I'm just trying to make Wikimedia Commons for Malaysia to be equally made for every state, with the same depth and same parallel name of coverage. Not just for one particular state being too deep, while the others are being left out. I'm trying to review the Malaysia category as a whole. Chongkian (talk) 15:18, 12 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I am well aware, that Sabah is predominant with the amount of images, as I am the main contributor of photos. The other states at this moment do not offer enough images to make a parallel structure necessary. This is not only a matter in Malaysia, but also in other countries, whereas not every category tree can be populated with enough images. I think, it is not really a problem, when Sabah has categories, that are not available for the other states. More important it is, to sort the images in appropriate categories, that do not leave pools with unrelated photos of high level categories. I will establish the overcat Shopping in Malaysia, but not parallel categories for the other states. Cheers and thanks again for working at the MY categories, --CEphoto, Uwe Aranas (talk) 15:47, 12 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, if you are based in Malaysia or Singapore, maybe you would like to join the Singapore Wikimedian Meetup 8. We are still planning though and getting enough people. Unfortunately not. I am a German, based in Cologne, Germany and I am coming one or two times per year to Sabah and Malaysia to pursuit my photo documentary project. The time in between, I try to catch up with postprocessing, but it is a a sisyphean undertaking; I have still tens of thousands photos of the region unprocessed. --CEphoto, Uwe Aranas (talk) 07:11, 13 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
File:SSCC.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Blanking categories

[edit]

Hello, thanks for your edits. Please don't blank categories, if you wish for them to be deleted, tag them with {{Speedy}} or {{Delete}}. Cheers :) Riley Huntley (talk) 07:20, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thanks for the info. Yeah, my intention to blank the category of some Common pages previously so that they would be deleted (due to name changes, name convention standardization, regrouping to other categories etc). Btw, thanks again for the info! Chongkian (talk) 07:24, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Bad work, I'm afraid :( Wieralee (talk) 09:31, 9 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I Understand. I've been trying to standardize the name writing convention, to be: "New Taipei City Library, Banqiao Branch" (before this got Banqiao Branch New Taipei City Library, New Taipei City Library Banqiao Branch, or Banqiao Library etc) .. so i try to standardize every name to be: main entity first, followed by comma, then the branch name (unless there is official full name in English) in their website or outside the building name. Of course there has been some redirections for this various names. I'm gonna fix this now. Chongkian (talk) 09:33, 9 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Qingcao Lake will be redirected to Green Grass Lake because it is not the official name. You can see the official website here.--Kai3952 (talk) 17:21, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thanks for informing that. I've been categorizing photos about Taiwan into their respective categories (because too many uncategorized photos in Category:Taiwan or Category:Taipei). But yeah, sometimes there is very little information about its official name. Of course if there is widely accepted name in English or Tongyong Pinyin, I will follow that. If not, then I have to go with its Hanyu Pinyin name. Chongkian (talk) 00:40, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I know, but this is not the problem with Hanyu Pinyin or Tongyong Pinyin. It depends on what kind of naming is used from the official English site.--Kai3952 (talk) 11:21, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've looked at a few of your edits([1], [2]), and why are you removing Category:Sihchong River? These images clearly include the Sihchong River.--Kai3952 (talk) 19:27, 16 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you try to understand the bigger picture, Category:Mudan Dam is the child category of Category:Mudan Reservoir, and the Category:Mudan Reservoir is the child category of Category:Sihchong River (dam or reservoir can never exist without the existence of a river, thus river is the parent category for dam or reservoir). So technically, the two pictures you have mentioned is still part of Sihchong River. I put solely as the sam, because the main/majority of the photo shows the dam. Whenever there is a more specific picture inside it, we shall go for that category. If you see inside Category:Sihchong River, there is that one clear photo of the river only (not showing any dam or reservoir), thus that is exclusively part of Category:Sihchong River. That's why the more bigger/general category such as Category:Taiwan or Category:Taipei shall always be removed and changed to a more specific location, such as township or district in which where they are located. Chongkian (talk) 00:13, 17 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No, "reservoir" and "river" are different concepts and should not be confused with each other. I think that you should create a category like Category:Reservoirs in Taiwan by river.--Kai3952 (talk) 14:14, 17 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I know from here that you created Category:Little Mount Huang. In the official English page of Taiwan([3],[4]), it is written "Little Huangshan" instead of "Little Mount Huang". I think that will be redirected to a new page(Category:Little Huangshan) on Little Mount Huang.--Kai3952 (talk) 22:30, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thanks for the correction. Please do so (make such corrections) if I make any mistake in creating those categories, especially those without really a widely accepted official English name (unlike Taipei 101, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall etc). Chongkian (talk) 11:33, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I see you added Category:Mount Shimen to these files([5], [6], [7], [8]). I don't know why you want to do that. Too many unidentified mountains in the area of Hehuanshan. If you have been to Hehuanshan you will know that the photo shown is not Mount Shimen.--Kai3952 (talk) 16:05, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Did you find any problems with the category page created by you? Please you read:

Not because you say: "there is very little information about its official name", and then you do not want to check if the category is named correctly.--Kai3952 (talk) 23:15, 10 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I found on the web: [9]. You'll see its location in the map of Bunun Leisure Farm under its official website. Clearly, it is located in Yanping Township, Taitung County. But I do not understand is why these files([10], [11], [12], [13]) are classified into Category:Bunun Leisure Farm. If you find that you do not understand it, then do not boldly to classification.--Kai3952 (talk) 07:03, 13 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Category:Pinglin Tea Museum

[edit]

I received the message you left on my talk page. I think you're not talking about "a classification method that can be used for any museum". What you have to know is that Taiwan is not like the United States, where every place can be seen as a tourist attraction. For example, Category:Parks in Taiwan, Category:Reservoirs in Taiwan, Category:Mountains of Taiwan, Category:Temples in Taiwan, etc. If I use this method for classifying, it may very well mislead people into thinking that every place in Taiwan is "tourist attraction".--Kai3952 (talk) 11:38, 17 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Did you understand what I said? I just want to make sure you have read it.--Kai3952 (talk) 04:54, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Of course. Chongkian (talk) 04:56, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I've seen your edits on a few category pages(E.g. Temple, Park,Mountain). The unidentified mountains is a tourist attraction? All the temples of Kaohsiung are a tourist attraction? All the parks of Miaoli are a tourist attraction? Obviously you don't agree with the below argument that "this classification method will mislead people."--Kai3952 (talk) 17:34, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Look at here: [14]. I noticed the category(Category:Kaohsiung Daitian Temple) is empty now, why is that?--Kai3952 (talk) 11:21, 30 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Well, do you actually understand how Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons work? Everyone in this world can EDIT it. So although I was the one who created the category and categorize the temple photos into that category, there is a 99% chance that other editors create a new category and change the category of the photos into that new category (e.g. change from Hanyu Pinyin name to Wade Giles name or vice versa), yet they forget to delete the old category or forget to redirect the old category to the new one. So to answer to your question, I don't know every single thing on what is happening in Wikipedia. That's why we have other editors to help each other (e.g. clean up, redirect, rename, reclassify, recategorize etc) if there is any error or if we make any mistake. Chongkian (talk) 11:10, 1 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

北竿 means Beigang? I noticed that your edits on Category:Beigan Horse Nose Bay look like "you wrote the wrong word". I've just read these two articles: en:Beigan, Lienchiang and en:Beigang, Yunlin. Are you sure the name was "Beigang" and not "Beigan"?--Kai3952 (talk) 21:21, 6 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

After several checks around, I've changed it already from Yunlin to Lieanchang. Chongkian (talk) 14:18, 7 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've looked at a few of your edits([15], [16], [17], [18]). I am confused why this page(Category:Linshanbi) was changed to a redirect. "Cape" and "Recreation Area" are different concepts and should not be confused with each other.--Kai3952 (talk) 09:29, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've looked at a few of your edits([19], [20], [21], [22]). I know see that the term "Wushihbi" actually refers to "a dark rocky headland extending into the Philippine Sea" as opposed to a place.--Kai3952 (talk) 07:47, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that a few of your edits([23], [24]) were changing "Category:Accommodation buildings in Taiwan" to "Category:Villas in Taiwan". So what you mean is that Villa means 渡假村? Do you know what "渡假村" means or do you know how to use the word "villa"?--Kai3952 (talk) 19:41, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think "摘星山莊" is a villa?--Kai3952 (talk) 12:17, 14 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I am waiting for your reply. If you do not answer, then I think you misunderstood the word "villa". When I say "you misunderstood the word villa" I mean I will choose to remove your edits. I hope you can tell me why you did so.--Kai3952 (talk) 05:08, 18 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Post Office / POS Malaysia

[edit]

Hi Chongkiang, imho there is is a misunderstanding in the categorization. Post offices is a building category while POS Malaysia is a company category. From that, my categories with the Sabah Post offices had been correct. I will rollback your edits therefore. Greeting, --CEphoto, Uwe Aranas (talk) 05:10, 17 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted your edits and added necessary references there in. Because it is not an enclosed or covered footbridge.--Kai3952 (talk) 04:43, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

As you saw, "南滨公园" is a Simplified Chinese, and not Traditional Chinese.--Kai3952 (talk) 09:48, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thanks to point out that mistake. Chongkian (talk) 14:34, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Look at your edits. What are you doing?--Kai3952 (talk) 15:47, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Chongkian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2017 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the twelfth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2017) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top 2 from each sub-category.

In the final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2017.

Round 2 will end on 22 July 2018, 23:59 UTC.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 11:32, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

Category discussion warning

Alaca Imaret Mosque has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Township office

[edit]

Hi there, could you please look at the following issue:

I think that you should be supplemented by plain English to define these terms.--Kai3952 (talk) 17:05, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, none of these I invented by myself, lol. That's not how Wikimedia works. For the term "Mountain indigenous township office" is the term for the local government office for the 'Mountain indigenous townships' in Taiwan. You know in Taiwan, the subdivision township was initially divided into 'urban townships' and 'rural townships' only. Later on, the Taiwan government further divided the 'rural townships' into the 'rural township' and 'mountain indigenous township', where the latter is the designated area for the Taiwanese aborigines people. The general term for the local government of all of these townships are 'township office', thus whether one is urban, rural or mountain indigenous, that is an additional naming term added in front of that township office name.
The general difference between the 'urban township' and 'rural township' is 'urban township' is the official Taiwan government (under its Ministry of Interior) term to name that township is a "town" (bare in mind that there are "cities" in Taiwan (officially divided into 'municipality' (e.g. Taipei, Kaohsiung etc), 'county-administered cities (e.g. Taibao, Zhubei etc) and 'provincial cities' (e.g. Chiayi, Hsinchu & Keelung only)), while the 'rural township' is the official term to name that township is a "village" (or less than a 'town' level, yet still higher than a normal village, because townships are further divided into 'villages' for its official term). Sometimes not all of the terms have its equivalent (apple-to-apple) terminology in English language. Again, this arrangement is the best in which I could think of to fully classify and divide nicely for all of Taiwan's local subdivisions. Of course other countries/regions sometimes have their own unique name for their subdivisions, e.g. canton in Switzerland, parish in Macau, federal districts for Russia, district for Brunei etc. It is not always follow the most common terms as in 'country' then 'province'/'state' etc. Chongkian (talk) 00:26, 25 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If so, why is Taiwan still using "township office" today? As yet I did not see which Taiwanese used "rural township office", "urban township office" or "mountain indigenous township office". I feel you have the burden of proof if you want to keep your categories.--Kai3952 (talk) 07:49, 29 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
In official context, even the official name of all of the municipalities (Taipei, Kaohsiung, Taoyuan etc) uses only the name "xxx City Hall" (e.g. Taipei City Hall), instead of the very 'official designated' name such as "Taipei Municipality Hall", yet Taipei City Hall (government office (or hall) of a municipality) is officially different than lets say Hsinchu City Hall (government office (or hall) of a provincial city). Some terms are 'de facto' used in a simplified term, yet for subdivision classification purpose, they are always differentiated, so that whenever we want to search for municipalities in Taiwan, we can easily be redirected to all of the "municipalities hall" under its category. Even county-administered cities (e.g. Zhubei etc), their local government office is also called "xxx City Hall" (e.g. Zhubei City Hall). But do we want to combined all of these municipality, provincial city and county-administered cities into just one category (e.g. xxx City Hall)? Of course no, because there are 'hidden' hierarchy inside them which makes them different from each other albeit they share the same name (even in their official designed name in their respective local government website). Same goes to township (which has urban, rural and mountain indigenous township classification) And also now applies to districts (a normal 'district' and 'mountain indigenous district'), although officially they are all just simply called "xxx District Office". That's why you can see at the category "District offices in Taiwan", the higher priority for sub-classification is to classify them under their respective district (e.g. District offices in Hsinchu, District offices in Keeling etc) category. Then only followed by a secondary (lesser importance, yet still worth to note/know) the "Mountain indigenous district offices in Taiwan" category to refer to the local government offices for the officially-designated 'Mountain indigenous districts' in Taiwan. @Chongkian: If you are you still there, can you show me the sources?--Kai3952 (talk) 21:08, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
In Taiwan, they is only using "township". By the same logic, they only have "township office". I can't imagine who would use "rural township office", "urban township office" or "mountain indigenous township office". Please prove it to me if you think that these three are not what you invented.--Kai3952 (talk) 22:10, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Chongkian: I am waiting for your source for 28 days, but you still have not provided a source to prove what you are saying is "true". I'm considering whether to bring this question to COM:CFD, but I'm still hoping you can show me the source. Finally, please don't ignore what you said!--Kai3952 (talk) 05:42, 28 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Full disclosure: I was alerted to this discussion by this post to my English Wikipedia talk page. Now to the topic at hand. According to en:Township (Taiwan), urban townships in Taiwan are known as , and rural townships as . Images on Commons offer corroborating evidence for this point. Fuli Township in Hualien is classified as a rural township, and the township office building says "富里公所" near the door.

"富里公所"

Guanxi Township, in Hsinchu, is an urban township, and its township office has a sign that says "關西公所".

"關西公所"

The last class of township applicable to this discussion is the mountain indigenous township (山地鄉). Though the mountain indigenous township is a distinct and recognized subdivision in Taiwan, it seems that, in practice, the standalone character 鄉 is used on official buildings. (Jianshi (Hsinchu) and Yanping (Taitung) Township Offices used as examples).

尖石公所, not 尖石山地鄉公所
臺東縣延平公所, not 臺東縣延平山地鄉公所

In my opinion, the categorization by subdivision type is valid, although, township offices by county [that is, a smaller administrative subdivision categorized within a larger administrative subdivision] is a clearer classification system, and is already in place (e.g Category:Township offices in Taitung). Just noticed that the last categorization scheme I described was put in place by Kai3952! Thank you for creating it. Vycl1994 (talk) 22:55, 7 August 2019 (UTC) edited at 00:30, 8 August 2019 (UTC); again at 00:38, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Kai3952: , as start with full disclosure, I notice this discussion because I know Chongkian in person, and Chongkian is asking my advice on this. After reviewing the current situation, I think Chongkian's proposition of using Rural/Urban/Indigenous Mounain Township is legit with the current legislation of Taiwanese administrative divisions. Here is what I find out with other community members:
According to the latest Local Government Act and English Wikipedia related article Administrative_divisions_of_Taiwan, we can see today there are not only four different administrative division as "鄉(rural township)/鎮(urban township)/市(county-administered cities)/區(districts)", but it also includes "山地鄉(mountain indigenous township)" and "直轄市山地原住民區(mountain indigenous districts)" in the current administrative divisions of Taiwan.
You may feel that the translation of township is not stated in the official English translation of the Local Government Act, however, we can also see the following English abstracts of these two research articles [25][26] under website the National Health Insurance Administration (中央健保局) and Centers for Disease Control (疾病管制局). They both use Urban/Rural Township to translate 鎮/鄉。 I hope my research can help you out to understand why the English translation of 鄉鎮市區 is like that. Regarding the rational of "公所" is translated as "office", please refer to this translation guideline as a source. I hope I have provided sufficient documentation to support the current categorization system of 鄉/鎮/市/區/山地鄉/直轄市山地原住民族區.
I hope the above sources are useful for constructive discussion. Thank you again for the issue and enjoy editing! --Shangkuanlc (talk) 09:40, 28 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
And to summarize the answers for your questions: All three categories are not invented by User:Chongkian himself. On the contrary, all "鄉(rural township)鎮(urban township)山地鄉(indigenous mountain township)", those three categories, are the latest administrative division that Taiwanese government is using. It is not a pure invention by him. Thank you. --Shangkuanlc (talk) 09:47, 28 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

东 as zh-tw

[edit]

Sorry to contact you again. In this edit ([27]), you seem to imply that '' can be zh-tw. I don't think that's possible, but I guess it could be. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 08:43, 28 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Oh right. Thanks for the correction. Chongkian (talk) 09:04, 28 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I made a similar change here ([28])- does this make sense? --Geographyinitiative (talk) 01:34, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yes correct also, thanks. Please do make all those necessary changes if I mistakenly put simplified Chinese instead of traditional Chinese in the zh-tw (traditional Chinese) name format. No need to report to me all the time, lol. Having both traditional and simplified name version is good, but make sure for Taiwan-related articles/page, we need to have the traditional Chinese name first as that's their official designated language/script there in Taiwan. ... Hi, Chongkian. I took a look at your edits. You added "Category:WLM-TW Yilan" to "Category:Yong'an Temple (Wujie)", but with no explain in the editing summary what you was doing. If you know that it is the category page, why add it?--Kai3952 (talk) 16:54, 7 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I found this edit from Category:Beidou Zhongzheng Hall. Can you explain why you added "Category:WLM-TW Changhua"?--Kai3952 (talk) 20:55, 7 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I guess you mean that only allow users who participate in the WLM-TW to use this category on their photo, because you have done the same thing elsewhere(e.g. diff/240744263, diff/236726946). I believe you have misunderstood WLM-TW.--Kai3952 (talk) 00:24, 8 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that was almost 2 years ago already. I forgot why I did that. Usually I rarely add that category. So if I did, there must be something going on at that time. Maybe I didn't add that directly to its Wikimedia Commons page, but maybe from some other page (maybe the WLM-TW itself) which then was linked to that Wikimedia Commons page. Chongkian (talk) 00:36, 8 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Anyway, we should not add it to the category page.--Kai3952 (talk) 05:34, 11 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Have you ever considered applying for administrator access? If I'm being honest, I was looking around the English Wikiquote for good candidates, and here I find you're even more of a prolific contributor on Commons. We could definitely use more administrators from Southeast Asia, as well as more diversity in our language coverage, not to mention people who have experience working in the movement in real life. Something to think about. Feel free to look me up if you're ever interested in a nomination. GMGtalk 15:09, 2 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, hi GreenMeansGo. I just love to write basically about anything in Wikimedia. Anything that pops up in my mind, I write/edit/upload it straight away. So far I only do the content contribution and meetups in real life. Of course I would love to do more to Wikimedia movement if that's the area I can contribute something. Sometimes, some of the existing/senior editors are a bit 'harsh' to any newbie, and that's what I wish there should be changes (instead they should guide, give example, answer quickly to any inquiry; instead of revert immediately, give warning, tag article-for-deletion (AfD) etc) - these things will really turn off all of the newbies, based on my experiences in conducting Wikipedia meetups. As in for administrator, any particular role that I need to do more than what currently I've been doing (autoreviewer, eventcoordinator, extendedconfirmed)? Will it include mediating such conflicts (newbies vs. oldies)? Cheers :) Chongkian (talk) 00:42, 3 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi GreenMeansGo, I have just self-nominate myself for adminship in Wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org). This is my nomination page (en:Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Chongkian). Thanks :) Chongkian (talk) 07:35, 17 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm confused about your creation of the category "Tofu Cape". If there are several images in the category that show Tofu Cape why I can't see any "cape"?--Kai3952 (talk) 12:04, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The name is from the official tourism website of Su'ao Township (https://welcome2suao.com.tw/en-us/Attraction/Detail?id=40). It is not me who decide to name it Cape, Peninsular, Island or anything else. And the image in that Commons category is also used by its zh.wikipedia article as well (https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E8%B1%86%E8%85%90%E5%B2%AC). Chongkian (talk) 13:17, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I found the cause they using for this word "Cape" after searching on Google for information about forming the Tofu Cape. Please take a look at this image: [29] What people call Tofu Cape the is actually an island which is connected to the mainland by a narrow piece of land. I guess they may have misunderstood the word "Cape". However, the geographic coordinates are provided in a Wikidata page for a location of a bay. I would like to know how you intend to use the category you created (Category:Tofu Cape). In my opinion, one is a bay, and another is a headland. They should be used in different categories individually by different purposes.--Kai3952 (talk) 10:39, 14 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If there is an article on that headland which is geographically different than the cape, then by all means please create the new article about it (start from Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons and finally Wikipedia page (in English & Chinese at least). But if there is no official listing of that headland, then for naming-sake purpose, we (and Taiwan gov) will simply group them all into one 'Tofu Cape' entity, which consists of cape, headland and probably maybe some small rock islands? And also, if we found out that geologically Tofu Cape also consists of a tiny island (in that bay area), should we also try to make a new Wikidata & Wikimedia Commons entity for that tiny island? If that's the case, then there will be way too many Wikidata entries created on this so small things, in which probably many of them are too small thus too insignificant to be considered as an independent entity, because basically we will never find out any references/news sources that exclusively talk about those. When things are way too small (or insignificant), we shall group them together first with the bigger (and more famous) entity, e.g. villages in Taiwan townships, or borough in Taiwan districts; unless such village has been so well-known, then probably we can make an independent separate entity for that (at least in Wikidata, and maybe in Wikipedia once it has been notable enough). Chongkian (talk) 12:03, 14 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Are you angry me or something else? I just want to know if the category you created is a bay or is a cape. If you don't want to discuss it then don't. However, don't blame me for not discussing! I will do it according to my idea. Thank you!--Kai3952 (talk) 14:01, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

SDAW is a grant-funded programme that will explore ways to structure content on wikitext pages in a way that will be machine-recognizable and -relatable, in order to make reading, editing, and searching easier and more accessible across projects and on the Internet. We are now focusing on designing and building image suggestion features for experienced users.

We have some questions to ask you about your experience with uploading images here on Wikimedia Commons and then adding them to Wikipedia. You can answer these questions on a specific feedback page on Mediawiki, where we will gather feedback. As I said, these questions are in English, but your answers do not need to be in English! You can also answer in your own language, if you feel more comfortable.

Once the collecting of feedback will be over, we will sum it up and share with you a summary, along with updated mocks that will incorporate your inputs.

Also, if you want to keep in touch with us or you want to know more about the project, you can subscribe to our newsletter.

Hope to hear from you soon! -- Sannita (WMF) (talk to me!) 09:56, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

File:Capital City Mall.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

I think that anyone should be able to tell that the person in the photo is a woman and you don't seem to care about the category you have added. I've seen too many people make the same mistakes as you because they always blame their own one on a tool that won't defend themselves. If/when people have this attitude and not willing to change themselves then might cause me to feel lost on what to do about "benefiting Wikimedia Commons".--Kai3952 (talk) 08:44, 3 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You haven't responded for over one month. Well...it looks like you want me to show evidence. Look at this diff. Did you see that? You added the "Male television presenters from Taiwan" category to this photo.--Kai3952 (talk) 21:13, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Chongkian: Excuse me?--Kai3952 (talk) 23:45, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not trying to harass you, I'm just confused by your edit on the File:台湾 新宿 - panoramio.jpg page where you typed this: "Taitung City". The street shown in the photo doesn't look like the street in Taitung that I know today. So, I'm curious how you know the photo was taken in Taitung?--Kai3952 (talk) 05:40, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Chongkian: Hello, are you there? I'm thinking that maybe you are from Taitung or live in Taitung. If so, you should at least give me a response.--Kai3952 (talk) 20:40, 3 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Although I think the photo looks like it was taken in Caotun (see: 23°58'40.8"N 120°41'02.9"E), but I believe you.--Kai3952 (talk) 18:05, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Category discussion warning

Genggang Fishing Port has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed.

Thank you!

Warning sign
This media was probably deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Freddy Su (cropped).jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Freddy Su (cropped).jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Hi Chongkian. I noticed that you've made malformed deletion requests: omitting subpage, transclusion, and notice to the page creator. Here, {{Delete}} is not for speedy deletion, please see COM:DP. When you want to delete a page by manually using the {{Delete}} template (rather than the automatic Nominate for deletion or Nominate category for discussion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar per COM:DR#Starting requests and COM:CFD#Starting requests), you must follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually policy or the "By hand" portion of COM:CFD#Starting requests, normally collapsed), otherwise you will create a lot of work for other people. Warning: such edits are not tolerated and have led to account blocks.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 23:48, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thanks for the explanation. I've been using Commons since 2012, and only now someone explained to me on this very particular part. Because for the same reason, other editor explained to me last time to use that {{Delete}} template to delete the empty category as per this conversation User_talk:Chongkian#Blanking_categories. You have uploaded one or more files that are copyright violations. You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter useful.

This is your last warning. The next time you upload a file that violates copyright, you will be blocked. Please leave me a message if you have further questions.

Hi Jeff G., I think there is a big misunderstanding here. For example the photo of File:Tee Hock Seng (cropped).jpg, that one is the derivative work from the original photo, in which I was not the uploader. What I did was only to crop the photo, to show the close up face of the person, in which it is usually that one to be used in the infobox of any biography-related articles in Wikipedia. Before I crop it, most of the time I will check the photo details first if there is any deletion-tagged or no to the photo. If there is no deletion (or copyright violation) tag at that time, then I will crop it and save it under different name (usually I will add the suffix (cropped)). If there is any tag, then I will not proceed to do anything about it. So yeah, all of those photos who got deleted (because of copyright violation), it was never me who originally uploaded them. I was merely cropping those photos and save it under different name. But I am sure you can always trace each of those photo on its original uploader and the original licensing provider, which is not me.
The things that I usually do is, for example: this File:Boško Mekinjić (cropped).jpg photo file, I cropped it from the original uploaded photo at File:Bosko Mekinjic.jpg which was uploaded by User:ShaolinBL. After I crop the photo and save it under different name, of course in the cropped photo edit history, my username will appear on the first edit, with edit history sth like cropped 64 % horizontally, 47 % vertically using CropTool with precise mode. But on the cropped photo, the author is still written ShaolinBL. So I am not sure if what I do is really copyright violation, because I am not the original uploader of the file. And at the time of cropping, usually I check the original file there is no 'copyright violation' deletion tagging. Or is there any better method to do these kind of edits I have been doing? And if there is indeed really copyright violation on the uploaded photos to Commons, isn't that the original photo uploader are the one who should get the warning (and not me who did the cropping edit and save it under different name)? Cheers. Chongkian (talk) 10:28, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

請問

[edit]

125.230.89.164 03:40, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Chongkian (talk) 06:55, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
我看國賓影城網站使用的英文名字是Ambassador,所以Ambassador Theater (Ximending)會比Guobin Theater更好。至於另一間,我沒有去研究--125.230.65.247 14:12, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category

[edit]

When you want to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category, best practice is to mark it with {{SD|C2}} if it would be OK to re-create it in the future, given that appropriate content becomes available or {{SD|C1}} if it is an inappropriate category name that should not be reused. In particular, this is better practice than just blanking the category page, as you did at Category:Architecture in the Palestinian territories. ("C1" and "C2" come from Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion). Jmabel ! talk 20:01, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
