PV Field

Xcel announced plans for a $200M, 120 MW solar photovoltaic installation in Pueblo County near its existing Comanche facility to leverage existing transmission lines.  The project will be referred to as Comanche Solar.  In a plan approved by the Colorado PUC last December, Xcel will install 120 MW of solar making the Comanche installation the major first step.  Xcel’s 120 report states that it found adding solar and wind to be the least cost option and is not adding RE capacity to simply satisfy renewable performance standards.

It will be built by to be built by Radnor, Pa.-based Community Energy. The 120-megawatt Comanche Solar project will be the largest solar installation east of the Rocky Mountains covering 900 acres with single axis tracking PV modules.
