Croatia
Crystal clear waters, cobbled stone streets and culture in droves – all the markers of a great travel destination and all there in abundance in captivating Croatia. One of the sunniest spots in Europe, we love Croatia not only for its postcard perfect beaches, but the historic sights of cities like Split and Dubrovnik.
Most people visit the jewel in the Adriatic crown, Dubrovnik, and it’s a great place to start. Although a little overrun by cruise ships and Game of Thrones fans in recent years, Dubrovnik still packs a punch. Whether it’s channelling Cersei in your walk of atonement down one of the main streets or taking a (very long) stroll along the historic city walls, it’s one of our favourite cities in Croatia (if not the region), and a must-visit if planning to get out that way. If you are looking to go, definitely check out our Dubrovnik itinerary for all the best bits.
Another unmissable city is the coastal gem of Split. This gorgeous red-roofed town is actually only three hours from Dubrovnik, so they’re usually paired together. We have some fond memories of the city, traipsing around Diocletian’s Palace in the day and downing cocktails at the many buzzing bars at night.
Of course Croatia is also known for it’s island life, and there are many to choose from. Party-goers usually head to Hvar whereas those looking for a more charming, laidback adventure should make their way to Korcula or Brac. We’ve been to both of the latter and can highly recommend them for a few days of sun and sand.
Regardless of your Croatia itinerary, this Mediterranean paradise has to be on your list; an affordable yet awe-inspiring nation full of beaches, beguiling buildings and enough world-famous national parks to keep you busy for days.
