Malaysia
What can we say about marvellous Malaysia? From the absolutely bustling city streets of Kuala Lumpur, to drinking the famous white coffee of Ipoh, and sauntering the lanes of George Town spotting street art, Malaysia has a lot to offer the avid traveller. It’s no wonder it’s one of our personal favourites in South East Asia!
As the global hub for no frills airline, Air Asia, Kuala Lumpur is a great place to start your travels. With everything from the colourful Batu Caves to gorgeous Chinese temple Thean Hou and, of course, the world famous Petronas Towers, Kuala Lumpur offers up a host of the country’s most iconic places. Plus you’ve got a shopping mall on almost every corner, so diehard shopaholics will fall in love with this city.
If you’re keen to see street art, then both Georgetown in Penang, or Ipoh are a great bet. You’ll find interesting art installations all over both towns, plus Ipoh has some incredible cave temples that we loved exploring.
More keen on the beach? Malaysia delivers here too. The epic Tioman Island, Langkawi and the Perhentians all boast turquoise blue waters, sandy beaches and some fantastic scuba diving spots.
Last, but definitely not least, you can get deep into the jungle in Borneo and fulfil that burning desire to see orangutans in their natural habitat. The region also has some wonderful trekking including Mount Kinabalu, the highest mountain in the Malay archipelago.
